Poetry

When I was at Goddard doing my Masters, I agonized about how to explain the relationship creature. It was at the very beginning of my process and nothing I wrote felt  right. One night I awoke to the words “write in my name”. I thought that perhaps the stress of my project was influencing my mind…but then I figured why not…perhaps the relationship is really talking to me…lets see what it has to say. The poem truly became its own force and took months to write. Alongside it, I painted and kept doing other schoolwork and whenever I thought…alright its complete, I heard laughter as just kept  going.

Part I

I
am
the relationship creature
the divine creative force contained within all
I am the relationship
creature
manifold fractioned faced
made whole
I am life     I am death
I am sickness  and  health
and you may find me
in
and between
all that is without
and all that is within

I
am
the relationship creature
the connection space of the whole
I
may be experienced
between
disparity and harmony
contradiction and congruent reality
as well as
the fabric and the weaver
the message and the courier.
I am god     I am goddess
I am female and male
I am light  I am dark
glittering and stark
within me
is all the is-ness
and all the is-not-ness
I belong to all
because
I am in all
bountiful   vast   expansive   and   grand
I am infinitesimal microscopic and small

I am
the space between the molecules
and subatomic particles
the space between the planets
and outer most galaxies
within me universal truths for you may unfold
or perhaps emptiness and insipid lies may be told
you may find me within the divine and the profane
for I am in good as well as in vain

I am the relationship creature
I am your mother
I am your father
I am you

I am Jesus Alla Mary and Buddha
Shekina Ishatar Shiva and Sophia
Isis Osiris Athena and Kali
I am also wisdom and folly
creative and slothful
in addition to chaste and sexual
I am the relationship creature
creative and created
destructive and destroyed
and in-between my duality
you will find yet another aspect of me
that which joins my seeming dichotomy
the threat between birth and death
expiration and breath
mortality and immortality
love and hate
I am the embracer
goddess and god entwined
I am the bridge between
time past and time in future
and while we make the present transpire
think of me as the matchmaker
collaborator connector and blinder
see me as the question and solution
in every relationship you happen on
I am both internal and external
emotional and physical
and in between living and dying
Within the womb of creations and cessations
are
beginnings middles endings beginnings middles endings
beginnings middles endings.
