Northern Thailand II

Below are the pictures from one day with the elephants. As I have already said…this was one of my favorite days on this trip…and maybe ever. I loved the beasts. When I looked in their eyes, it was so obvious that someone was home.

At the beginning I wasn’t too keen on putting the bananas in their mouth as you literally had to put your hand in the mouth, but once I got the hang of it, their mouths were so soft and mushy and they were so gentle taking them from me…it was a treat. Since we hung with them for the day we began to see their personality, which one was more feisty and who was more “mature”…it was funny to observe.  There was also a mother and a six month old baby (which you can see in the picture), it was fascinating and heart warming to watch her be so protective with the little one.

They all had this hair that was very tough which I thought was interesting as well as very thick skin…and yes they did smell a bit, at the beginning, but the smell quickly didn’t dissipated within fifteen minutes of hanging with these gentle giants. Truthfully? I just felt so graced to have the experience with them that after a while that’s all there was elephants.

In the other pictures there is Pai, a tiny village north west of Chiang Mai, it very close to the border in Burma. The town was adorable and a throw back to the sixties. It made Barb and I chuckle at the scene of old and new hippies…the food was great and believe it or not they had a great falafel place.
