Temple Watt Phra That Doi Suthep and more Chiang Mai
This important Buddhist temple was built in the mid 1300. It is about a 45 minutes drive out of Chiang Mai in the mountains and is the main temple of the area. I read somewhere that Buddhists who are visiting the area would not consider it a visit, unless they stopped at this particular temple.
As we got out of the city we began the half hour climb with tight corners zig ziagging up the mountain. Spring was evident everywhere. The drive was deliciously beautiful as trees were in full bloom and some of the trees had a green halo that only spring can attain. I must say it struck me a bit odd to have spring in the heat, but I loved it. More than the temple I was taken with the area and peaceful feelings it evoked. The stairs’ railing to the temple (which can be seen in photos), that end with dragon heads are amazing, they are made of ceramic.
Enjoy the pictures of the temple along with others in Chiang Mai. This is the final blog on the north…I realized after I posted the first post on North Thailand, that I wanted to make more comments on some of the pictures…so they make more sense in the context in which they were taken.
