Bali II

As I write this I am in my guesthouse lobby in Thailand feeling satiated both emotionally and physically after a very satisfying day of learning to shop and cook Thai food. The eating part I knew how to do all too well so no learning necessary there …but as usual, I am getting way ahead of myself.

I have a little more to say about Bali and certainly many more pictures to share.

I kept asking myself what was it that was so sweet about the island, what was it that made it special for me?

As I have already mentioned in the first Bali blog, the people seem to have retained a sense of innocence regardless of the tourism that has taken over the island in the last few years. The other thing that really struck me is the feast my senses were having every moment of the day.  I found that I was always losing myself in the colors and sounds.  Whether I was in the country or towns there was always something beautiful to look at. And let me tell you, some of the beautiful things I saw– hopefully made it to my home.  Yes shopping was a lovely part of my visit. There it this road called something like Tegalleland north of Ubud (a wonderful town in the mountains), it is a quite few kilometers long, where artisans have shop after shop displaying their goods. It is an unbelievable place not only with the amount of goods but the artistic quality.  And if you are anything like me, you would have had your eyes crossed a few times over. Both Barb, and Komang our Balinese friend and driver had quite the few laughs at my eyes expense. It seems that as soon as we got to Tegalleland my eyes became very shiny. And when my eyes became shiny, they were ready for my “oh, stop here, I just want to see this one thing”.

Below I am continuing to post pictures of beautiful Bali…enjoy.
